A. Objectives
To provide a benchrest score-shooting format to be enjoyed by the widest possible spectrum of competitors. Range and equipment requirements are held to a minimum. Opportunities to compete will be provided for everyone from the novice to the expert. DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING is an internet based organization, and as such, the vast majority of all business will be handled via e-mail and web-based exchange of information.
B. Definitions
1. Bench
A bench shall be a rigidly constructed table appropriate for benchrest competition. All benches at a given range will be as close to identical as is practically possible.
2. Host Club
A Host Club is a DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING registered club that holds DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING registered tournaments. The Host Club is responsible for scheduling and conducting tournaments, and reporting results via e-mail to the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING organization. A Host Club shall be considered to be an "active club" for the purposes of voting if they scheduled, conducted, and reported results for at least four tournaments in each of the current and previous years (12 month periods).
3. Match
A single event in a tournament. At least four competitors must participate to qualify as a match in a registered tournament. Classes (and even divisions) may be mixed in a match at the Match Director's discretion.
4. Range
A place to shoot, having no less than 2 benches. It shall have sturdy target frames placed at a distance from the firing line appropriate for the type of match to be fired. If indoors, that fact must be noted in the match report.
5. Registered Tournament
A match, or group of matches, authorized by DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING, and conducted under the rules and regulations set forth in this Rule Book. The term "tournament" when used in this Rule Book will refer only to registered tournaments.
6. Rifles
Definitions and requirements are in the sections describing Air Power Divisions In all cases, handguns may be used if they do not otherwise violate the rules. The word handgun may be substituted for rifle in this manual. All rifles and handguns must be legal under applicable federal, state, and local laws.
7. Rests
Front rests may contact the forend of the rifle forward of the trigger guard. Rear rests may support the rear part of the rifle. The front and rear rests may not be connected together, and the rests may not be attached to the bench or rifle in any way. Return-to-battery will not be allowed. A bipod attached to the rifle is allowed as long as it is in no way attached to the bench, and its weight is included with that of the rifle.
8. Tournaments
a) Club Tournament
This is the base line tournament to be held at each Host Club. A club may schedule as many Club Tournaments as they wish.
b) Regional Championship
There may be one Regional Championship Tournament in each region per year. The location of Regional Championships will rotate among clubs wishing to hold them in each region.
c) National Championship
There may be one National Championship per year. The location of the National Championship Tournament will rotate from region to region, based on which clubs wish to hold them.
C. Eligibility of Competitors
No competitor may be required to be a member of any organization in order to compete in a DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING registered tournament. The Match Director may deny the opportunity to compete to any person who they feel is incapable of safely completing the match, or to any person who violates Safety or Sportsmanship rules.
D. Safety
The Match Director will be responsible to see that appropriate safety precautions are taken. Since the regulations at each range and the experience level of the competitors are different across the country, we will not attempt to force our safety practices on anyone. We expect the Match Director and all competitors to exercise their best judgment to keep our sport safe for all that participate. We do suggest that the Match Director or Range Officer go over basic safety rules before a match if there is any question that anyone in attendance may not be familiar with the rules in effect at that range.
E. Sportsmanship
There shall be no boisterous conduct on, or near, the firing line during the firing of any match. Everyone should treat all shooters as they would like to be treated if they were about to shoot a new record score.
F. Targets
Targets will consist of twenty-five (25) record targets and three sighter targets. The sighter targets will be visibly setarated from the records. All shots on record target counts for record. Any number of shots may be fired into the sighter targets. If the first shot impacts in the record area, you must notify the Range Officer (before firing another shot) who will inspect the target and make note that the shot will not be counted.
Targets used will be skive M96[1]. Different targets may be used for calibers larger than .22.
G. Stationary Backers
Stationary backers may be placed behind the targets in order to pinpoint the origin of any crossfire. This is optional at all tournaments.
H. Tournament Procedure
Only registered tournaments will be recognized for record purposes. Registered tournaments may be held only by clubs affiliated with DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING, which are in good standing and which have the facilities and equipment necessary to conduct the type of shoot to be held. Registered tournaments may only be held on dates previously published on the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING web site.
1. Range Commands
The Range Officer will call competitors to the line at least five minutes before the commence fire command is to be given, in order to allow rests and other equipment to be set and adjusted. Before the first match of the day, on each relay, the Range Officer will explain the procedure that is in use at the Host Club to start and stop a match, including the procedures to be followed in case of an emergency cease-fire. If an emergency cease-fire is calld, the reason for such should be corrected, and then the match should be restarted with an additional three minutes added to the remaining time (if less than three minutes have elapsed before the emergency cease-fire, the clock should be reset to 20 minutes).
The Range Officer will announce a one-minute warning and a 30 seconds warning before the end of each match.
2. Weighing Guns
We recommend that all guns are weighed before the match begins so no one will get a rude surprise if their equipment is found to be overweight. If a rifle is found to be overweight after a match is fired, the score must be reported as "DQ" (same as any other disqualification). We also recommend that the guns of all winners of prizes, including cash options, be weighed.
A club official must weigh any gun used to shoot a DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING record score.
3. Bench Drawing
A drawing for bench assignments will be made before the first match of the day. Any fair method shall be allowed, such as drawing a number from a "hat" as the competitors sign in, or a computer generated random assignment.
4. Bench Rotation
Bench rotation is optional at all tournaments, but is highly recommended at all Championship Tournaments. The suggested method is that the number of benches to rotate will be determined by dividing the number of benches in use by the number of matches to be fired. (For example, if you are holding four rimfire matches at a range with 12 benches, shooters would rotate to the right 3 benches each match. A shooter drawing bench 5 would shoot from benches 5, 8, 11, and 2.) If bench rotation is not to be used at a Championship Match, it must be so noted in the scheduling information.
I. Scheduling Tournaments
Each Host Club is allowed to hold any number of Club Tournaments. In addition, one State, Regional, and National Championship Tournament may be scheduled in each respective area. Interested Host Clubs should apply for the opportunity to hold State, Regional, and National tournaments by Feb. 1st. These locations will be selected, based on applications received. If no Host Club applies to hold one of these tournaments by the February 1st deadline, applications will be accepted after that date, but they must be received in time for dates to be published on the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING web site no less than 30 days in advance of the match date.
Application for tournament dates must include:
1. The name and address of the Host Club making the application.
2. The location of the range on which the tournament is to be held.
3. The program of events to be scheduled.
4. Range facilities (number of benches, restrooms, camping available, etc).
5. Contact information for the Match Director or Communications Officer.
The director of DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING will examine the application and verify that there are no conflicts with other tournament schedules and if no problem exists the director will approve the date(s) requested. If dates conflict with other tournaments in the region, or are within 7 days of the first day of a National Championship, the applying club will be notified and requested to pick different date(s).
J. Scoring
Best edge scoring will be used. If the hole breaks into the border of the next higher ring, the higher score will be awarded. Tears in the paper are not counted, only the portion of the hole the size of the bullet. Shots below the sighter line, but not breaking into a target count as 0 points. If any target has multiple holes, use the lowest scoring hole. Additional shots (over 25 for rimfire, for example) below the sighter line will count as minus ten (-10) points each.
Scoring plugs may be used to check holes which are too close to measure otherwise. If a plug is used (it should only be inserted once), a "P" is to be written next to the score. Be very careful when using plugs, an enlarged hole could invalidate a score. If it is not possible to determine that the hole actually breaks into the border of the next higher ring, the lower score must be given.
If the white of the 10-ring is completely shot out (that is, the bullet hole extends past the white of the 10-ring on all sides) it will count 10 points and an "X". X-count is used only to settle ties.
If a competitor is disqualified for any reason, such as an equipment violation, the score will be reported as "DQ". The Match Director will report the reason for the DQ in the match results. If a competitor does not finish their target in the allotted amount of time, the score will be reported as "DNF".
1. Tied Score
If two, or more, competitors shoot the same score, the X-count will be used to break the tie. If, after including the X-count, the scores are still tied, the scores will be reported as a tie. (Example: if the third and fourth place finishers both shoot a 240-6x, both their positions will be recorded as 3T, and the next place will be 5.)
The Host Club may use any other method to break ties on a local level, such as holding a shoot-off or comparing individual bulls in a specific order. DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING recommends that this only be done when physical awards are at stake. When such procedures are used, the results should be included in the match report so they can be posted in the newsletter.
2. Crossfire
In case of a crossfire, if the person making the crossfire reports it first, or admits to it immediately after it's being reported by the person whose target was accidentally fired on, the crossfire will not be counted on the target that was accidentally fired on. The shot will be recorded as if it had impacted on the target of the person making the crossfire. Adjustment to the score of the person making the crossfire, including both the score on that target and the number of shots on the target, will be made, and additionally, a minus ten (-10) point penalty will be added to the score of the person making the crossfire. If the crossfire impacts a bull on which a legitimate shot has also been fired, and it is not possible to determine which shot belongs to which shooter, the highest scoring hole will be counted for the legitimate shot, and the lowest scoring hole will be counted as the crossfire.
3. Record Scores
DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING will maintain a listing of record scores and aggregates. When a DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING record score is fired at any range, it is the responsibility of the Match Director to be sure the gun is weighed. When a record score is tied, including X-count, both shooters will share the record.
Targets which are deemed to be candidates for DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING record status must be examined by the Match Director and referees. Names of these officers must be included with the match report.
K. Trophies and Awards
It is the responsibility of the Host Club to arrange for any trophies, certificates, or other awards to be given at each tournament. It is acceptable to include the cost of such awards in the fee charged for entry to the tournament. We strongly recommend that the cost to enter a tournament be kept as low as possible to encourage new participants. When cash awards are given in place of, or in addition to, those awards, we recommend that the cash prizes be treated as "cash options".
L. Duties of Tournament Officials
Any person may hold more than one of the following positions. When possible, DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING suggests that matches be scheduled such that persons holding the following positions may also be able to compete in the matches.
1. Match Director
This is the main officer, as far as DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING is concerned. The Match Director selects and oversees all the other officials. Responsibilities listed under the section "The Host Club" are to be completed by the Match Director.
2. Range Officer
The person responsible for timing (starting and stopping) and insuring safety at a match. Also responsible for signaling the Target Crew when it is safe for them to go downrange.
3. Referee
Three referees are to be picked by the Match Director. These persons are responsible for settling any disputes and questions that may arise during a match. They should have immediate access to a copy of the Rule Book for reference. When possible they should be picked from the "more experienced" group of competitors. At the Match Directors discretion, the selection of Referees may be deferred until they are actually required.
4. Scorer
Scores targets.
5. Statistician
Records and displays results received from the Scorer. Also responsible for verifying weight, and other restrictions, of firearms used in various classes.
6. Target Crew
Posts and retrieves targets. They receive clearance to go down range from the Range Officer. At the Match Director's discretion, competitors may be allowed to post and retrieve their own targets.
7. Communications Officer
The Communications Officer is responsible to send, via e-mail, the match results to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING as soon as possible after each tournament. It is suggested that the Communications Officer, also, download and print a copy of the latest DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING Newsletter from the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING web site and post it at the tournament.
M. The Host Club
The Host Club is responsible for scheduling, conducting the tournaments and reporting the results.
The Host Club must make available a scale appropriate for weighing guns to be used in the type(s) of competition to be held. Check-weights should be on hand, and used often, to calibrate the scales. (These can be easily made by filling plastic bottles with shot. Grocery stores will usually let you use their certified scales to check your weights.)
N. Fees
No fees.
O. Match Reports
Within a reasonable time after a tournament, the Host Club shall send a match report to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING, via e-mail, including:
1) Scores, by Division and Class.
2) Equipment list (optional, but suggested).
3) A report describing conditions and items of interest (optional).
The match report shall be sent to the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING News Editor, via e-mail, in text-only format. Pictures may be included along with captions. Pictures should be in .jpg format and compressed to a level suitable for use on the internet. Keep in mind that most of our members use dial-up internet connections and it takes a long time to download a large picture.
P. Challnges and Protests
Challenges and protests should be referred to the Match Director who will call in the Referees to settle any disputes. The Match Director and Referees at the Host Club have the final say on all disputes, but they may, if necessary, refer the dispute to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING for consultation purposes. If the question is referred to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING, the scores will be reported and the dispute, including any supporting material, will be submitted along with the match report for consideration. If DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING believes the outcome of the match should be altered because of it's opinion on the dispute, the Match Director will be contacted before the outcome is published. The Match Director will make the final decision based on input from the Referees and DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING. (Include return postage for any material which the Match Director wants returned after the final decision is made.)
Q. Rule Changes
Anyone is welcome to suggest changes to the rules. In this context, a "Rule Change" shall apply only to "course of fire" rules. All suggested changes should be given to the Match Director of the local club who will forward them to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING. If there is some reason that the originator would rather not go through the Match Director, they may submit them directly to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING along with a brief explanation as to why it was submitted this way. The requests may be sent in separately or included with the next match results, as long as they meet the deadline date listed below.
Suggested changes must include:
1) Name and address of the originator (which will be kept confidential if
requested).
2) Name of the originator's Host Club.
3) Detailed explanation of the change requested.
4) Detailed explanation of why you believe the change would be in the best
interest of our competition.
Requests for changes must be received by DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING no later than September 30th. They will be included in the October issue of the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING Newsletter along with DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING comments. Match Directors should poll their members as to how they should vote on each change request. Based on the feelings of the members, the Match Director of each active club should cast a vote on each requested change. The votes must be e-mailed to DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING no later than November 15th.
Each active club gets one vote, and DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING will cast one vote, for each change requested. In order for a change to take place, it must receive two thirds (2/3) of the votes cast. The results of the vote, including how each club voted, will be published in the January issue of the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING Newsletter. The rule book will be updated to include any change requests that are passed.
No rules will be changed without allowing active clubs the chance to voice their opinions. DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING gets only one vote on each suggestion, the same as an active club. DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING may comment on suggested rule changes and will often make it known how it will vote in the newsletter.
The intent is to limit rule changes to those that the vast majority of clubs wants. DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING may make suggestions, but can not make a rule change on it's own (unless, of course, no other clubs bother to vote on them).
Records
Records will be held for the following classes : See Classifications.
Club
The DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING rules are posted on the DANSK LUFTSKYTTE FORENING web site. Because of the nature of Matches, there are a few differences in the way these matches are held.
I. Air Power Division

All air guns must comply with danish legal restrictions at all times. All air guns must appear in well taken kare of order and should be treated as if they are loaded. All air guns must have a security plug mounted when not on the firing range. No air gun may be transported to or from the bench without being mounted with a security plug. The local club may supply security plugs. No air gun may be loaded before the guns is placed on the bench with the muzzler pointing down range. Air guns which have security locks must remain locked until shooting is started. No air rifle may be transported if loaded. No air gun may be transported when magazine is mounted.
